A Christmas Story Themed Holiday Party
This year I was bored of my same old generic Christmas decorations so I decide to put a little twist on the most wonderful day of the year and decorate around the holiday classic A Christmas Story. I mixed in a few of my stock x-mas decor with items I purchased or made inspired by the movie. Who can forget the mom’s mortification when the leg lamp lit up their window? Everyone can commiserate with Ralphie when all he could think about was getting a Red Ryder.
I had a lot of fun making the decorations for my hutch. I picked up a plain wood sign from Hobby Lobby and cheap plastic glasses from Amazon and transformed them to movie themed pieces using Christmas magic (and my Cricut).
The first thing we did at the party was fill a big bowl of popcorn and snuggle in to watch the movie. I have seen A Christmas Story at least 20 times since I was a kid, always around the holidays. The nostalgia I felt while watching Flick get his tongue stuck to a flagpole and Randy screaming “I can’t put my arms down” was heartwarming.
After the credits rolled we gathered around the dinner table and devoured the themed menu. Meatloaf and Mashed potatoes were the perfect comfort food for the holiday! After dinner it was time for dessert and, of course, the themed carried through to the last course with an Ohhh Fuuuudge sundae bar!
Christmas is about spending time with your family and having fun! We all enjoyed a theme this Christmas … What other Christmas movies could I plan a party around? Die Hard next year?
